If you are coming from away, you must first drive to Mount Desert Island (MDI), which is
located about 10 minutes from Bar Harbor Airport (BHB), 1 hour from Bangor (BGR) International Airport, 3 hours from Portland
Jet Port (PWM), and 5 hours from Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston.
After you get to MDI, drive to one of the harbors listed below to catch a boat out to
Great Cranberry Island.
You can't drive your car to Great Cranberry Island -- it is really an island! (i.e. no bridge.) You must leave your car on MDI and use public ferries (boats) from either Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, or Manset. Or you can contact a private water taxi. Links below. Check local police stations in respective towns for available overnight parking areas when you arrive. Phone numbers below. We recommend that you plan to arrive on a early AM boat in order to have time to set-up your camp site (see FAQs for camping info) and to get registration materials and familiarize yourself with our island. |
